Affiliate and sponsorship disclosure

The lookup is free because products are. Here is exactly what that means, in more detail than the regulator requires.

How we make money

Two ways. Some product links earn a commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. Some placements are paid for directly by a brand or retailer.

Both are disclosed. Paid placements carry a Sponsored label on the card and a disclosure line under the product list on every page they appear.

What money changes

The order products appear in, and nothing else.

What money does not change

The specification we publish for your engine. That comes from manufacturer service documentation and is not for sale at any price.

Whether a product qualifies at all. A product is only listed against a specification if it carries a published approval for it, verified on the manufacturer's own licence register rather than taken from the front label. No amount of money gets an unapproved oil listed against an approval it does not hold.

Why we are strict about it

A recommendation that can be bought is worth nothing to a driver, and therefore worth nothing to an advertiser either. The commercial value of this audience depends entirely on the answer being honest, which makes the editorial line a business decision rather than a favour.

Questions

If a listing looks wrong to you — an approval that does not check out, a label that is missing — tell us through the contact form and we will look at it.
